Today, ensuring private use of sensitive user data has become a priority for both device manufacturers and software developers. That is wherefor it is not surprising that Android 12 has focused much of its novelties on security, with functions that allow users to easily control who can see their data.
Among the improvements implemented, the panel of privacy
functions stands out, which is shown more clearly in "Settings",
allowing you to see the permissions of all the applications at the same time.
Another modification has been that these permissions can be revoked from the
same panel, without the need to go to the settings of each app individually.
The new operating system update also streamlines the display
of permissions and the timeline of the use of the camera, microphone and
location, showing the date of the last accesses. You can even create a quick
access from the settings and notification bar to activate and deactivate all
the sensors of the device.
Another improvement in terms of privacy is in the operation
of the security indicators. With Android 12 every time an application accesses
the device's camera, microphone or location, a balloon appears in the upper
true corner of the screen to alert the user.
On the other hand, thru regard to the user's location data,
the new version of Android allows you to agree whether you want to indicate the
exact location to the applications or just an approximation. This can be very
useful with applications that do not require an exact location on the map, such
as weather or social media apps.
It also includes the possibility of knowing in real time the
content that an application is trying to copy, making the user aware of the
sensitive information found on the clipboard, such as data related to the bank
account or passwords.
Smart Features: Private Compute Core
One of the main innovations in Android 12 in terms of
security is the implementation of Private Compute Core . The PCC is a system
isolated from the OS and from the applications that processes user information without
sharing it, assuming the intelligent functions of machine learning.
Among these measures integrated into the system, focused
on protecting user data, are:
•automatic transcription;
•automatic song recognition;
•automatic replies for messaging apps.
These functions are integrated into the phone without the
need to connect to Google's servers, being isolated from the applications that
users usually use, providing them with greater control of the information they
share.
Updated interface design and wallpapers
With this update, Android abandons the type of design known
as "Material Design" to make way for "Material You." A
commitment to interaction with the user, offering the possibility of
customizing the design of the interface of your device according to your
preferences.
To do this, Android 12 has a smoothed design that includes
new animations and notification bubbles. These design changes have been applied
to the entire environment by modifying the menus, windows and widget style,
colors, light, shape, transitions and shading, and gives the option to extract
the predominant color from the wallpaper to customize the menu. It also
includes a "one-hand" mode, which makes navigation and writing easier
by reducing the size of the surface used and aligning it on one side.
What is Material You
The functions integrated into the “Material You” concept
allow each user to generate their own personalized color palette based on the
image on the wallpaper, as well as edit the size and shape of the application icons.
In addition, the format of the home screen is reduced to a grid for 4 × 5 apps,
ceasing to occupy the entire screen.
With the arrival of Monet, the new native Android theme
engine , users of devices from manufacturers such as Xiaomi, OPPO, Sony or realme,
among others, will also be able to customize the aesthetics of their operating
system, even without having notions of design, thanks to the simplicity of its
interface. For example, based on the chosen wallpaper, the user can select a
color palette according to it, with complements and harmonics, and can also
modify the brightness and saturation.
These tones can be applied throughout the interface, from
the lock screen and notifications to internal elements such as the clock or the
music control widget. Widget has also been widened, both with the screen locked
and active, which facilitates its manageability.
Smoother animations
The animations have also been improved in this update, with
new visual effects that give feedback to the user on the actions carried out
with their device, such as the rebound effect when reaching the end of the
scroll on a page or list, unlock the phone or put it to charge.
The new animations make Android 12 more fluid, smooth and
organic, eliminating the rigidity of previous versions. It must be taken hooked
on account that these differences will be more noticeable in last generation
devices thanks to the low consumption of resources of the new motor (which has
reduced the processor overhead by more than 20%) than in previous generation
terminals, although they can also be seen benefited from some of these
improvements.
Screenshots
The new version of Android offers the possibility of taking
extended screenshots that cover the entire scroll. Now it will be possible to
select, by means of a slider, the space that you want to save with the capture.
Google integrations: gapps
The ecosystem of Google Apps (gapps) also includes as new
features in this update the inclusion of much more accessible Google Pay and
Google Home controls , although its operation continues to be the same as in
Android 11.
To facilitate the use of Google Pay for payments, the
interface adds a card icon in the lower right corner of the screen. In this
way, by touching the icon the application opens and allows payment with the
card that the user has by default. In the opposite corner, there is the direct
access to Google Home, the home automation application that allows you to
control smart speakers and other Chromecast devices.

Good news for gamers: Play as you download is here
Google has implemented the "play as you download"
function in this Android update to improve the playability on devices with this
operating system. In this way, it allows you to start playing while the application
is downloading, without having to wait for it to completely download and
install, as was the case before.
This feature will only be available in games published on
Google Play in the Android App Bundle format, the new format in which
developers are required to publish their apps from August 2021.
